According to reports, Apple is set to announce a new OLED display upgrade for the iPad mini, iPad Air, and MacBook Air.
Apple is reportedly preparing a major display upgrade across its tablet and laptop lineup. According to a new report from Bloomberg, the company is currently testing OLED versions of the iPad Air, iPad mini, and even the MacBook Air. This move means that OLED technology, known for its vibrant colors and excellent contrast, will extend to Apple’s non-“Pro” devices as well.
OLED and a New Design Coming to the iPad mini
The most notable development for compact tablet fans comes with the iPad mini. Apple is reportedly planning to release this smaller tablet with an OLED panel in 2026.

The iPad mini is expected to become the first non-“Pro” iPad to feature an OLED panel in 2026. In addition to the screen upgrade, Apple is reportedly working on a completely redesigned chassis that includes water resistance and an improved speaker system.
These significant upgrades, unfortunately, will come at a cost. The report suggests that the OLED iPad mini could be priced up to $100 higher than the current model. Apple is not stopping with the mini and aims to improve display quality across other popular series as well.
iPad Air
This model is also expected to adopt OLED technology in the coming years. However, the next iteration is reported to continue using an LCD panel for now, in order to keep costs balanced.
MacBook Air
Apple is said to be developing an OLED version of the MacBook Air as well. However, the OLED upgrade for this laptop series is not expected soon, with an estimated launch timeline of 2028 or later.
