Instagram continues to roll out new features for Reels. Now, thanks to Picture-in-Picture (PiP) support, you’ll be able to keep watching Reels even after exiting the app.
Instagram is working on a new feature for its popular video format, Reels, which could completely transform the user experience on the platform. Discovered by app researcher Radu Oncescu, the upcoming Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode will allow users to continue watching Reels while multitasking.
Reels gets PiP support
Similar to what we’re used to seeing on video platforms like YouTube, this feature will enable a Reels video to shrink into a small floating window on the screen. This will allow users to keep watching the video while browsing their Instagram feed, checking messages, or visiting different profiles. The biggest advantage, however, is that the video will keep playing even if you completely exit the Instagram app.

How It Will Work
The feature, which has started rolling out to a limited number of users for testing, will be very simple to use. While watching a Reels video, a new “Picture-in-Picture” button will appear in the options menu. Once tapped, the video will automatically shrink into a floating window on the screen, allowing you to continue watching while using other parts of Instagram — or even while using other apps.
Since the feature is still in the testing phase, there is currently no official release date for all users. However, the update is expected to make video-watching on Instagram much more flexible and convenient, allowing users to enjoy a smoother and more practical Reels experience.
