Apple will promise a modern design with the iPhone 18 series… delivering new experiences without under-display features.
On China’s largest social media platform Weibo, Setsuna Digital — an account with 1.5 million followers — claimed that the iPhone 18 series will not feature an under-display camera or under-display Face ID.
According to the post, Apple will switch to a smaller Dynamic Island design on the iPhone 18, 18 Pro, and 18 Pro Max compared to current models. This change is said to make the screen appear wider and more spacious, giving the devices a more modern look.
No Under-Display Camera or Face ID
Leaks suggest that the iPhone 18 series will not include under-display Face ID. Instead, a visible front camera will remain within the reduced Dynamic Island. Likewise, under-display front cameras won’t be used in these models. Apple reportedly made this decision to preserve image quality and maintain strong camera performance.

How Will the Camera and Face ID Work?
In the new design, a physical camera cutout will remain on the reduced Dynamic Island. This camera will serve a dual purpose: powering the Face ID facial recognition system while also handling photo and video capture.
Setsuna Digital’s previous leaks about the iPhone 17 series, including photos and details, turned out to be accurate. For this reason, the iPhone 18 claim seems highly likely to be true. However, as of now, there has been no official statement from Apple.
